The idea
I wanted to make something I could actually use outside the shop, and a skateboard seemed like a fun challenge.
Design
I picked the shape and size first and made a template so both sides would come out the same.
Process
I cut the rough outline, then spent a long time shaping the edges and sanding until the curves felt right in my hands. After finishing the wood I put on the hardware.
What stuck with me
Shaping by hand takes patience. Small changes to the outline made a bigger difference to how it felt than I expected.
