Hi, I'm Megan Tran
I’m a junior at Harvey Mudd studying engineering and media studies.
I like making things with my hands. That started with a pen on the wood lathe and turned into woodworking, machining, electronics, and a lot of embroidery.
The things I care most about in engineering are medical devices, open-source tools that more people can afford, and the space where engineering and the humanities overlap. That last one is why I added media studies.
When I’m not in the shop I’m usually cooking, baking, hiking, or putting on a movie.
Awards & Recognition
SWE-LA Section Scholarship @ SWE-LA Professional Development Conference
I got the 2026 scholarship from the Society of Women Engineers Los Angeles Section. SWE has been a big part of my time at Mudd. The conferences and events are where I’ve met a lot of working engineers, and the community has kept me going more than once.
2nd Place Medtronic Hackathon, Cardiovascular Track
My team, Flow State, took second place with Arteria. It’s an idea for new features in Medtronic’s MyCareLink app that help patients actually understand their heart data, build healthier habits, and talk more easily with their care team.
Dean Chris Sundberg Prize @ Harvey Mudd College Leadership Awards
Mudd gave me this award for my involvement on campus. Between SWE, the machine shop, and the Makerspace, a lot of my time here goes into helping other people build things, and I really love that part. You can read more about the award here.
