Cutting Board with Knife Holder
I made this one for my mom for Mother's Day. It has a slot built in to hold a knife.

The idea
After I made my own board, I wanted to make one for my mom too. I added a knife holder so it would feel a little more special and so her knife would always be right there when she's cooking.
Figuring out the holder
The tricky part was the slot. It couldn't weaken the board, make it hard to clean, or keep it from sitting flat. I planned out where it should go and sized it around the knife before cutting anything.
Making it
The rest was the same as my first board: mill the wood flat, glue up, flatten, cut the slot, sand, and finish with food-safe oil. She uses it all the time, which is the best part.
